flickr

Well, I have done it. I now have a flickr account/page. Not so hard, just time consuming.
Still can't work out the time thing!

The mysteries of blogging

How on earth have I ended up following myself!
Now - how to put a stop to this ...

Right, that's fixed, but now how do I end up with a time at something like 4 in the morning when I can quite clearly see the clock on the computer says 9.47pm as at this moment!

Aaaaarrrrggh!

There is so much to take in. And I'm not sure that I'm doing that - taking anything.
I don't know if I am game to put my tuppence-worth into a wiki. I find them interesting, but haven't come anything that I know is wrong, or needs correcting.

Lesson 4 rss feeds

What do you like about RSS and newsreaders? The information is there! All of a sudden - the latest info.
What sites did you select for your RSS reader? ABC news, 702 radio, Powerhouse, Librarybytes ...
How do you think you might be able to use this technology in your work? To keep up to date
How can libraries use RSS or take advantage of this new technology? Don't know which blogs/sites you would choose - can't have all of them! You have to be selective. I have personal interests, but I don't know how a library (or any other organisation for that matter) makes a choice! Maybe the statistics one would be good.
Did you find any good examples of other library blogs? Parramatta City Library - good reviews, up to date.
Remember to take a moment and share your thoughts and comments on someone else’s blog. I follow a couple of blogs and comment on one of them regularly - A Letter A Week. Does it have to be a library (web 2.0) one?

Adventure (OPTIONAL activity)
I have added the 702 radio news feed to my own blog.

Lesson 3

Note to self: try setting up a flickr account

Late night thought ...

Oh and in regards to books, I work in a library of course!

Thursday, May 26, 2011

And in the beginning there was the ... scribble.

I am expecting great things from me. This is the second time I have started Web2.0. Time of course is the biggest issue with getting through the programme.

It is all fascinating, this new technology, but not all completely new to me. I think it is great to have such resources but I do have an issue with just how much an individual can accomplish in a given time frame. There are so many things I would like to do with my time.

I am a calligrapher and do so little of it that it really can be called scribbling. My technique has dropped off due to lack of practice.

What do you hope to learn from the program? About all these wonderful things my kids talk about that I have no idea of.
What do you think about Lifelong Learning? Everyone should do it. Personally I'm a TAFE junky. I love doing practical hands-on courses and workshops. Books are my passion - I design them, buy them, make them, 'write' in them, borrow them from the library and read them.
What other blogs have you discovered? A-Letter-A-Week 2010 and now 2011 are blogs that I contribute to. (And another one that a calligraphic friend has started, I find a great way to stay in touch.)
What do you like about them? It is a way of making myself do my calligraphy and bookmaking. By making the commitment to abide by the rules of the blog. It is an interactive thing almost with a mind of it's own.
Can you see a use for blogs inside the Library? A great way for people to stay in touch in a more personal way with their local libraries and what goes on in them. It is much more up to date - almost instant.
How about blogging for a client audience? If you have a message to share it is a great way to do it and clients can access it from the comfort of their own homes!
